How to Control Your Anger?

In this blog

Have you ever experienced a day where a minor inconvenience, such as someone interrupting the queue you’re in or someone repeatedly mispronouncing your name makes you furious? Don’t worry, you’re not the only person who has ever become enraged about the smallest irritants in life. We all get angry, even the best among us.

The good news is that rage can be compared to a pressure cooker. It’s okay if the whistle blows every now and then, as long as it doesn’t explode. In this blog, we will explore what anger is, learn how to control anger issues, and offer helpful advice on how to handle it so you can remain composed even when life throws you unexpected challenges.

What is Anger?

Anger is a totally normal emotion. But when it goes uncontrolled, it becomes an issue. Anger can pour over and create a mess, much like the over-boiled milk on the stove. About 35% of Indians suffer from anger management issues and around 65% of office workers experience office rage.

Why is Anger Management Important?

Anger causes many health issues in our body like high blood pressure, insomnia, depression, anxiety, stress, headache, digestion problems and even heart attack. It can also have a negative impact on the people around you. Therefore it is important to learn how to control anger issues.

How to Control Anger?

The first step in anger management is to learn how to control your mind and in turn learn how to control emotions. To get rid of anger quickly on the spot, here are some tips that can help you :

1. Pause and breathe: Learning how to control anger issues starts with this simple step. Just stop whatever it is you’re doing, close your eyes and count to ten while focusing on your breath. This simple yet effective technique can save you from so many problems that can arise while you’re angry.

2. Express calmly: Instead of suppressing or yelling, try to communicate why the issue makes you angry. Sometimes remaining calm and composed and talking it out might just solve the problem you’re facing and that too in a healthy way.

3. Identify the trigger: It could be something as simple as a traffic jam to something more complex and deep rooted. Whatever the case may be, it is important to identify what triggers your anger so that you can have better control over your anger issues.

Yoga for Anger Management

To learn how to control anger issues in the long run, practicing yoga can be very helpful. Yoga trains your brain on how to control your mind and how to control your emotions. So without further ado, here are some asanas you can do to keep your anger at bay.

1. Balasana (Child’s pose) :

Why it works: This pose relaxes your mind and relieves tension from your back and shoulders.

How to do it: Sit on your heels and bend down while extending your arms forward until your forehead touches the ground. Stay in this position and take deep breaths for a few minutes

Why it works: This pose opens up the shoulders and chest, which can help release pent up anger.

How to do it: Stand with your feet wide apart. Bend sideways such that your right arm touches your right foot or floor while your left arm is stretched upwards. Look at your left arm as you hold this position. Repeat the same on the other side.

4. Sukhasana (Easy Pose) with Deep Breathing

Why It Works: Think of this as “Netflix and Chill” for yoga. Although you’re just sitting in this posture with your legs crossed, don’t undermine its power. Sitting in this posture while paying attention to your breathing improves focus. In addition to improving posture and calming the mind, this lowers tension and anger levels.

How to do it: Sit down on the ground, cross your legs over one another. Close your eyes and place your palms on your knees in chin mudra. Breathe in and out slowly for ten to fifteen minutes.
