The Secret to Strength Training, Confidence, and a Healthier Life

When it comes to fitness, most people start with walking or cardio. Many aim for 10,000 steps a day because it’s a popular benchmark. But have you ever wondered how many km is 10,000 steps?
On average, 10,000 steps equal 8 km for women and around 7 km for men, depending on stride length. That’s a fantastic daily goal for general health.

However, while steps and walking improve endurance, they don’t fully develop muscular strength or body strength. This is where strength training comes in, and it’s an absolute game-changer for your body, metabolism, and overall fitness.

Let’s explore why strength training is important, how it works, and how you can start today, whether at home or at the gym.

What is Strength Training?

Strength training, also called resistance training or weight training, is a type of exercise where your muscles work against resistance. This resistance could be:

  • Your own body weight (push-ups, squats, planks)
  • Dumbbells or barbells (weightlifting gym exercises)
  • Resistance bands (resistance workout)
  • Machines at the gym (strength training gym)

Why Strength Training is Important ?

Here are 10 benefits of training and resistance exercises that show how powerful this practice is:

Types of Strength Training

There are different types of strength you can develop, including:

  • Explosive strength – for speed-based sports.
  • Endurance strength – for long-duration activities like cycling or hiking.
  • Maximal strength – lifting heavy weights like in bodybuilding weight training.
  • Functional strength – everyday movement efficiency.

If you’re confused about strength training vs weight training, here’s the difference:

  • Weight training is one form of strength training using external weights.
  • Strength training also includes yoga, resistance bands, and bodyweight exercises.

Resistance Training vs Weight Training

Many people ask, “What is resistance training?”
Resistance training : It includes all exercises where muscles resist a force. It’s broader and gentler, perfect for beginners.

On the other hand, weight training : Specifically refers to using weights like dumbbells or barbells.

Example:

  • Push-ups → resistance exercise.
  • Dumbbell curls → weight training.

Both are effective, and combining them gives the best results
